Song of the Day: Kingdoms - Split the Sky

Today's Song of the Day sees another band that's probably new to you, but is also unfortunately no longer in existence, meaning that if you like what you hear you'll have to be content with their current body of work. And while in the case of today's band that may be a fairly small body of work to have to be content with, but it's a pretty solid body and a pretty high note to go out on.

Today's song is "Split the Sky", the first song off of the 2009 EP Daughters of Atlas by a Canadian band from Kitchener called Kingdoms. I had a really hard time picking a song from this EP, as everything is so uniformly good. Just about every song has some strong melodies, some techy, mathy riffs, maybe a sing-alongable chorus, maybe a heavy breakdown-type part or especially cool riff at the right climactic moment. It's a full seven song half hour of music.

Kingdoms had a really good ear for writing songs, and ultimately I just went with the tried and true "first song off the release" approach to decide on a song for today. Hopefully it'll inspire you to want to hear the rest of the EP, because it's a half hour well spent.
