Song of the Day: Finch - Worms of the Earth

Today's band has been rolling around in my head as an idea for Song of the Day for a while now, but I could never think of the right song to showcase them to those of you who might not know them. Today, however, it came to me.

American post-hardcore band Finch unfortunately broke up in 2010, but fortunately before they did they released a couple of EPs and two full lengths: 2002's pop-punky/pop-screamo-y What It Is to Burn and 2005's more mature post-hardcore/post-rock sounding Say Hello to Sunshine. Both are still really good, listenable records (ie: even What It Is to Burn doesn't sound too dated), but today's song doesn't appear on either of them. Neither does it appear on either of Finch's two EPs. Believe it or not (you should believe it though, because it's true), it's from the soundtrack for the first Underworld movie, a soundtrack which actually produced several cool songs (I'm thinking in particular of the song by David Bowie and Maynard Jame Keenan, but that's a whole other post...)

Anyways, your song today is Finch's "Worms of the Earth" from the soundtrack to 2003's Underworld. Finch isn't always as heavy and abrasive as they are in this song, but they're certainly capable of it, and there are flashes of it on both of the earlier LPs. Lot's of flashes. Enough that I can safely say that if you dig "Worms of the Earth" at all, you should be able to find something to like on one or both of Finch's full-length releases. So go out and listen to some Finch already.
