Song of the Day: Coheed and Cambria - The Trooper

I suppose I could probably find enough decent Pink Floyd covers to just keep going that way for the rest of the week, but variety is the spice of life and all that, so let's switch it up just a tad, shall we? Today I've got another cover of a classic song by a similarly immortal band.

Song of the Day: Misery Signals - Us and Them

Under the Covers of Darkness Week continues apace, and today I'm going to keep rolling along with a very specific mini-theme that you didn't even notice me establishing yesterday: heavied-up covers of Pink Floyd songs. Too specific, you say? No way I could come up with another such cover after yesterday's song? Watch me. I've got a good one by one of my favourite heavy bands.

Song of the Day: Shadows Fall - Welcome to the Machine

Under the Covers of Darkness Week continues on this Humpday, and if yesterday we took a step away from more conventional covers, today we take a step back towards them. Not only that, but your cover for today comes from a band that's had a song featured lately. But all of the being said, it's a cool cover of a great song, so you're gettin' it whether you like it or not.

Song of the Day: Cake - War Pigs

Afternoon everyone. Today we're back doing day two of Under the Covers of Darkness Week here at Loud Noises, and I've got a good one for you. Yesterday's song, Thrice's cover of "Eleanor Rigby", while being cool, was a pretty straight-forward cover. It was heavier, sure, but definitely recognizably "Eleanor Rigby". Today's cover is a little further afield from the original -- in some very good ways.

Song of the Day: Thrice - Eleanor Rigby

A little over a month ago, Loud Noises had its first theme week when I did Classic Rock Week. Now, maybe classic rock isn't your favourite thing in the world, but I hope the concept of having some sort of running theme for songs from one day to the next isn't too offensive to you, because I've got a couple of ideas for doing it again, and I'm going to do one of them this week.

Sunday 25 November 2012

Song of the Day: The Tea Party - The Bazaar

I was having trouble thinking of a song for today, until my girlfriend suggested something we'd been rocking out to earlier in the car. Yeah, I think that'll do.

Song of the Day: Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose

I'm sure you're well aware that Soundgarden is back together. You probably know they put out a new album, King Animal, a couple of weeks ago. You might even have heard the first single off said album "Been Away Too Long" on the radio or online. But if you're like me, you're not a huge fan of this song. I haven't heard anything else off the album yet, but if the single is any indication, I vote it best to remember the good ol' days.

Song of the Day: Monuments - Blue Sky Thinking

Today's band is definitely Djent with a capital D (which isn't surprising given their pedigree, with guitarist John Browne being an alumnus of defunct British djent pioneers Fell Silent) but that doesn't mean they're not worth a listen or two. I just got a copy of their debut full-length last week, and I've been digging on it quite a bit.

Song of the Day: Big Wreck - That Song

I try to go to good shows when they come to town, but sometimes the composition of a bill isn't enough to justify the price, even if I'd like to see one or more of the acts on it. Tonight is one of those nights.

Wednesday 21 November 2012

Song of the Day: Shadows Fall - A Fire in Babylon

Today's band certainly isn't new, and they don't have a new album out or anything, but I got thinking the other day about how I haven't heard these guys in forever, and then I got thinking about how that's a perfect excuse for a Song of the Day, and, well, here we are.

Tuesday 20 November 2012

Song of the Day: Slice The Cake - The Siren's Song

Some days it's hard to come up with something that is both a) new and potentially undiscovered by the majority of you, and b) nice and heavy. No worries today though, because I've got both.Tasty.

Song of the Day: Faith No More - Epic

I know you know it, but I've chosen today's song in honour of reaching one thousand all time page views here at Loud Noises. Here's to another thousand!

Raise a Glass to 1000 Views!

So there's still going to be a Song of the Day today, but I feel the need to just put up a quick post to share with you the fact that as of this morning Loud Noises now has more than 1000 all-time page views! It was a slow start, but things have been picking up, so thanks for stopping by, and by all means, keep reading.

Song of the Day: Closure In Moscow - Kissing Cousins

Yesterday when I was writing about Thank You Scientist and trying (somewhat vainly) to come up with some way to describe their sound, I mentioned a band called Closure in Moscow. Checking my records (yes, I do keep records) I see that I haven't done a Song of the Day for them yet, and since they're the kind of band that I don't imagine too many of you are into, I figure they could use a day in the spotlight.

Saturday 17 November 2012

Song of the Day: Thank You Scientist - My famed disappearing act

I read reviews on sites like Heavyblogisheavy and MetalSucks, and if somebody I don't know sounds particularly interesting I'll go and check them out. I'm sure you do much the same thing when you're looking for new stuff. That's how I discovered today's band.

Friday 16 November 2012

Song of the Day: Slipknot - The Nameless

Nothing super new today, although I should have a few new things for you in the coming days, so today we're just going to do a cool (and perhaps underappreciated song) by a band I'm sure you all know.

Thursday 15 November 2012

Song of the Day: Deftones - Swerve City

I've posted about Deftones new album a couple of times now, showcasing the first couple of songs they released from it, but since it was actually released on Tuesday, I figure what better time to do another Deftones tune.

Wednesday 14 November 2012

Today's Song: Refused - Refused Are Fuckin' Dead

For today's (quick) song, we're going to visit a band not dissimilar from yesterday's band Numbers, in that they're both a little hard to pin down, genre-wise, and also in that I've written about both before.

Yesterday's Song: Numbers - Oh Teh Monies

I know this is getting a little old, but it is what it is. Old habits die hard, so what can we say about the longevity of bad habits? Hopefully that it's short-lived. All I can promise I'll try to get the Song of the Day train back on track. That said, let's get to yesterday's song.

Monday 12 November 2012

Song of the Day: Metallica - Fade to Black

It's Monday, and it's been a while since I've done a Metallica song for a Song of the Day, so buckle up kids, because it's Metallica Monday again!

Song of the Sunday: Black Sabbath - War Pigs

It's Remembrance Day here in Canada (or was yesterday ...) and it's hard to come up with an appropriate song that isn't too cheeky or one of the ones they play at ceremonies at 11:11. So I've just gone with a song I think is a good war song, but not overly silly or "metal".

Your song for yesterday is Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" (ok, the name is a little silly maybe...) the first track from the epic 1970 album Paranoid. Lest we forget...

Saturday 10 November 2012

Song of the (To)day: Visions - Attentive: Continuum

So for today's actual song, I'm reverting to my original mandate and featuring something you might not have heard before, although if you follow the modern techy/core scene then you might know today's band after all. Ladies and gents, I give you Visions.

Song of the (Yester)Day: Thrice - Under a Killing Moon

I know it's technically late, but it's also really early in the morning and therefore not quite Saturday yet, so conceptually I'm going to imagine I finished this last night like I intended to and go from there...

Thursday 8 November 2012

Song of the Day: Revocation - No Funeral

I know it hasn't been all that long since I did a Revocation song, only a couple of weeks, but I've recently picked up a copy of their 2011 full length Chaos of Forms and I'm really getting into it and them. So today you get another Revocation tune. Lucky you!

Wednesday 7 November 2012

Song of the Day: The Receiving End of Sirens - Planning a Prison Break

Like a drowning man grasping at a piece of wreckage that until recently was part of a boat, I'm going to cling to a theme from yesterday's song to arrive at today's. And that theme is Casey Crescenzo.

Tuesday 6 November 2012

Song of the Day: The Dear Hunter - In Cauda Venenum

Ever heard of The Dear Hunter? No? I'll forgive you, since I don't think I've written about them yet. But after today you've got no excuse, OK?

Monday 5 November 2012

Wham Bam Boom: Three Day Catch-Up

Another rapid fire day today, as Saturday night's belated Hallowe'en party left me very ineffective this weekend. First up is your song for Saturday.

Friday 2 November 2012

Today: White Zombie - More Human Than Human

Writing the post for yesterday's song by Rob Zombie gave me another of my "thematic connection"-type ideas, so I thought I'd keep the Rob Zombie going today in the form of Rob's other gig, White Zombie.

Yesterday: Rob Zombie - Dragula

I thought I did a song yesterday, but apparently not. So blammo!
