Song of the Day: Cake - War Pigs

Afternoon everyone. Today we're back doing day two of Under the Covers of Darkness Week here at Loud Noises, and I've got a good one for you. Yesterday's song, Thrice's cover of "Eleanor Rigby", while being cool, was a pretty straight-forward cover. It was heavier, sure, but definitely recognizably "Eleanor Rigby". Today's cover is a little further afield from the original -- in some very good ways.

Your song today is Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" as funkified by Cake. Yup. You're reading that correctly. Cake covering "War Pigs", on their 2007 B-Sides and Rarities collection album. If it's possible for a Black Sabbath song to have its groove quotient turned up, then Cake accomplishes this feat. And like I said above, they take "War Pigs" a little ways from the original: you can still tell what song it is, but they're also throwing their own twist into the mix and not just playing a note-for-note facsimile. Have a listen, because this is one I truly guarantee you'll dig. If you don't there's something seriously wrong with you.
