Song of the Day: Glass Cloud - Counting Sheep

Today's song isn't exactly hot off the press, but it is by a band new enough and small enough that you might not have heard anything about them, although chances are you've heard at least one of the other outfits in which members of Glass Cloud have done time. Vocalist Jerry Roush used to be a member of both Sky Eats Airplane and Of Mice And Men, while guitarist Joshua Travis continues to sling strings for The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza in addition to his duties in Glass Cloud. Along with bassist Travis Sykes and drummer Chad Hasty, Roush and Travis started Glass Cloud last year, and a couple of months ago they released their first album, The Royal Thousand.

Now, I'm not really familiar with The Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza (yet) so I can't comment on how their sound compares to Glass Cloud. What I can comment on is Glass Cloud's sound: techy, percussive riffs with lots of loud end and a strong sense of melody and vocals that go from screaming to singing and back with equal aplomb. Sound like a lot of bands these days? It's true that Glass Cloud aren't really doing anything earth-shatteringly original, anything that nobody is doing yet. But it's also true that they're doing what they're doing pretty well. They're worth more than just a passing glance.

So here's more than a passing glance: your song today is "Counting Sheep", from the aforementioned record The Royal Thousand. It's one of a couple of singles that have been made available various ways since the album's release, and it happens to be my favourite, but check out the other ones too before your sonic jury hands down a verdict on Glass Cloud.
