Song of the Day: Machine Head - Darkness Within

I'm not necessarily the hugest Machine Head fan, but I will say one thing about Rob Flynn and the boys: they love a good, slow burn.

Machine Head songs routinely clock in at five to six minutes or better, and often take a bit to build to their peak intensity. That kind of songwriting can be hit or miss, even with a band as technically proficient as Machine Head, but when it hits, the end results can range from "good" to "great" to "fucking epic".

Your song today isn't quite "fucking epic", but it's still pretty good. Have a go at "Darkness Within" from 2011's Unto the Locust for an example of a slow burn that pays off with some sweet riffage, and then leave a comment with your favourite slow burn build up songs.
