It seems like I just get things back on track and then they fall right back off the rails again. Oh well. Onward and upward, right? Saturday song it is then!
I've posted about Australian prog band Caligula's Horse at least a couple of times before, and now the time has come for me to do it again. The bad news is that I'm not doing so because of a new album or anything like that. The good news, though, is that I am prompted to do so by the recent emergence of a rippin' live video from their recent performance in Brisbane supporting none other than Opeth. Not too shabby, right?
"Into the White" originally comes from the 2013 Caligula's Horse album The Tide, The Thief, & River's End, and even though the version I'm linking to today is the recent live rendition, rest assured that you could alternately check out the album version of this one and be guaranteed to find the same melodic and melancholy progressive post-whatever in either case. This is eights minutes well spent, whether you're already a fan or not.

Caligula's Horse - A Gift to Afterthought
Tonight's post is going to be what you always hope fast food will be: delivered to you as quickly as possible but still nice and tasty.
I've written about Australian prog masters Caligula's Horse at least once before, featuring a song from the band's 2013 album The Tide, The Thief & River's End. There doesn't seem to be a new C-Horse record imminently on the horizon just yet, but the band has recently put out a video for another song from The Tide to keep us going until news of new material fills the progless hole in our collective soul.
"A Gift to Afterthought" opens The Tide, The Thief & River's End with a bang, its crunchy riffs, big melodies, and catchy grooves setting the tone for the rest of the record. If, as looks to be the case based on the band's Facebook, there are at least some kind of recording plans for 2015, Caligula's Horse will definitely be an act to keep an eye on.

Caligula's Horse - Dark Hair Down
Today was a bit of a milestone for me. I convocated this morning, officially becoming a Master of the Arts. Now, in addition to a big stack of books I've yet to read, I've also got a long back-list of music to get to, including today's band.
I've long wanted to check out Caligula's Horse, and now I've got even more incentive with the band's new album The Tide, The Thief & River's End and the new video for "Dark Hair Down". Heavy enough and proggy enough without being inaccessible or avant garde, Caligula's Horse strike a tasty balance. I shall definitely be sampling some more of these Aussies' wares.
