Night Verses - Celestial Fires

The naysayers among you (you guys are the worst) would likely argue that the emo/screamo/whatevero implosion crippled, or even killed, the genre(s) commonly known as post-hardcore. But I say post-hardcore is still alive and well. Take a knee, son!

I've written about Night Verses before, but a lot has happened for them in the interim. I featured a track from their EP, but since then the band has released their debut LP Lift Your Existence, and now they've unveiled a new video for the song "Celestial Fires".

Both aggressive and earnest, "Celestial Fires" is the perfect case study of emotional post-hardcore, with just a hint of a metal edge. If it's any indication of the overall quality of Lift Your Existence then I'm going to have to make a serious effort check the whole LP out. I suggest you do the same.

Song of the Day: The Sleeping - Believe What We Tell You

Back in the Before Time (in the Long Long Ago, for those of you in the know) I wrote about a band called Night Verses that happens to have an alumnus of The Sleeping among its current membership (I'm looking at you, Douglas Robinson). But tonight we're going to rewind things a few years a feature a song from Doug's old band, The Sleeping.

Song of the Day: Night Verses - I've Lost My Way Back Down

This one's fresher than fresh. This afternoon I was in a Shoppers Drug Mart flipping through a copy of AP when I read about Night Verses, the new project from former The Sleeping vocalist Douglas Robinson. Despite never being a huge fan, I definitely dug The Sleeping when I used to listen to them back in undergrad. This new outfit, which apparently originated as an instrumental trio that Robinson has recently joined, isn't metal per se, but it is heavy and it is worth checking out. I know I'm going to be listening more of them.
