Your quickie song tonight comes from Australia's The Helix Nebula and their 2014 EP Meridian. The guys have recently put out a playthrough video for shreddy progfest "Crystal Plains", so now is the perfect time to get acquainted, or reacquainted, with The Helix Nebula. With a debut EP like this one, a debut LP might prove to be fucking phenomenal.

Saturday: The Helix Nebula - Sailing Stone
Will tonight be the night I finally get caught up with the Real World calendar? Read on to find out!
My boy Plini is all over the place these days. Not content to just finish up the third EP in his badass trilogy, he's also done some guest work recently, for Skyharbor's sophomore effort Guiding Lights as well as the EP Meridian by fellow Aussies The Helix Nebula.
The song in question is "Sailing Stone", for which the guys in the band have recently released a playthrough video, and the solo Plini recorded is about a minute in. But you shouldn't just skip ahead; no, you should really stick around for the whole thing, because it's a six-plus-minute slice of proggy instrumental metal that keeps moving the whole time and never gets boring. The next release or two from The Helix Nebula could be especially tasty.

The Helix Nebula - Sea of Suns
There's a decent chance that your Thursday thus far hasn't been tech enough, so please, allow me to fix that for you before the day is out.
Australia, as I think I've mentioned before, seems to be a hotbed of talent that tickles my fancy. Today's it's techy, somewhat fusiony instrumental band The Helix Nebula, who've just released a song in advance of the release of their debut EP Meridian next week. "Sea of Suns" is a cool track on the whole, but that bass solo is worth the price of admission. Check it out and help me make Techback Thursday a thing.
