I think you could use some energy to carry you into your weekend. I know I could. So your almost-on-time (!) Friday song is loud and abrasive and chosen with the intention of kick-starting your evening. Sound good? Good!
If I had to encapsulate the sound that Washington State's Wild Throne have crafted in "Harvest of Darkness", the eponymous first single from their upcoming Harvest of Darkness -- which I suppose I do -- I guess I'd say it's a blend of noisy hardcore/post-hardcore akin to Converge and the weirdness and acrobatic vocal delivery of a Mars Volta.
I don't know how this comparison stacks up for the rest of the album Harvest of Darkness, but single "Harvest of Darkness" is a little slice of off-kilter energy that should be enough to light your fuse for the next two workless days ahead. Enjoy!

White Arms of Athena - Heavy Sleep
One listen to the first single from the forthcoming sophomore White Arms of Athena album and I think you'll agree that Converge's Kurt Ballou definitely left his mark.
The band recorded White Arms of Athena, due out in December, at God City with Kurt, and I think "Heavy Sleep" is dirtier and more abrasive for it. Converge's brand of hardcore/post-hardcore has always been rough and jagged around the edges, and while White Arms of Athena aren't the same kind of band at all, it certainly sounds like they've had a bit of Kurt and Co.'s grit applied to their more metally sound.
Will the whole album be reflective of this? Who knows. We'll have to wait until December to find out. For now, just listen to "Heavy Sleep" and check out that crazy album art. That's some trippy shit right thar.

United Nations - United Nations vs. United Nations
You might be in need of something snappy after last night's post-rock meanderings, so tonight I bring you an incendiary couple of minutes of modern hardcore/aggro post-punk from supergroup United Nations.
With a founding roster than includes members of Thursday, Glassjaw, and Converge, United Nations is a supergroup in the truest sense of the word, and a mysterious one at that. The permanent membership of the band remains largely unconfirmed and speculative, other than Thursday vocalist Geoff Rickly, giving it the feel of a collective where art is more important than artists.
The band's sophomore LP The Next Four Years comes out in the next couple of weeks, so you should probably get ready by listening to the first song to be released, "United Nations vs. United Nations", and hear a band that has most definitely picked up the torch first lit by Refused.

Friday: Converge - Dark Horse
Slowly but surely catching up on all things Loud Noises here, so pitter-patter-let's-get-at-'er.
For a Friday song, we're going with something raucous and balls-out to celebrate the end my marking and the advent of the weekend. What something raucous and balls-out, you ask? Maybe a little bit of hardcore/post-hardcore legends Converge, that's all.
Friday's tune's going to be "Dark Horse", the high-energy opening track from Converge's 2009 album Axe to Fall. I'm sure Converge fans would point out the classic status of 2001's Jane Doe, but that doesn't mean Axe to Fall is an offering by a band past its prime. Tracks like "Dark Horse" demonstrate that Converge has still got it, and the furious pace of the song's verses is the perfect way to open a record to boot. Prepare yourself.
