Song of the Day: The Contortionist - Flourish

     I jumped on the The Contortionist bandwagon with last year's Intrinsic, but I recently picked up a copy of their debut disc Exoplanet, and I can see now that these guys are an example of a band that really has evolved and expanded their sound.



     Intrinsic is more atmospheric and ambient, a sophomore effort by a band incorporating a little more diversity into what they do. Exoplanet is a less refined, more aggressive offering but one that still contains flashes of the melodicism and dynamics to come. Flashes like today's song, "Flourish". Hopefully the departure of vocalist Jonathan Carpenter won't derail the progress of this progressive act.
