Song of the Day Double Header

You know the drill: no song yesterday means two today. Shazam!

Thursday 29 August 2013

Song of the Day: Arcane Roots - Second Breath

Today's song is thematically connected to my earlier post in which I wagged my finger sternly in Canada's direction. How meta!

WTF Canada?

Just in case you're not a regular reader, let me get you up to speed on something: I'm from Canada. Not only that, I'm proud to be Canadian, and I feel really fortunate to be able to live here. But every once in a while Canada does something that makes me a sad, face-palming panda.

Song of the Day: Baroness - March to the Sea

Usually when I'm picking songs for this, bands have a tendency to wait until after I've chosen a given song to released a video for it. Whether it's a honest-to-gods music video or some live footage, I'm usually left to update you after the fact, or else simply let the occasion pass unmarked. Not today.

Tuesday 27 August 2013

Song of the Day: Circles - The Design

Still no word yet on when Australian band Circles' debut LP Infinitas will hit our earholes, so for the time being you'll have to settle for today's song.

Monday 26 August 2013

Song of the Day: Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Mechanical Animals is easily Marilyn Manson's best album.

Sunday 25 August 2013

Song of the Sunday: A Perfect Circle - Magdalena

Just as old Protest might possibly keep us all going until the release of new stuff, perhaps some A Perfect Circle can help sufferers of Tool withdrawal make it to the next fix... whenever that might be coming.

Song of Saturday: Protest the Hero - Sex Tapes

Of course I would go to bed without posting a song AGAIN. But fear not, I've got yesterday and today covered. So read on!

Thursday 22 August 2013

Song of the Day: Revocation - Archfiend

If, as I've often said before, Sylosis has inherited the thrash crown laid down by bands like Metallica et al., then they've done so as Britain's representative only. Boston's Revocation is most definitely  current American champion of releasing records that contain 110% of the daily recommended dose of riffs in each and every song.

Wednesday 21 August 2013

Song of the Day: Numbers - Bravery

By this point in the Loud Noises saga, you should be at least somewhat familiar with Numbers, an electronic and post-hardcore influenced metal band from Washington state.

Tuesday 20 August 2013

Song of the Day: Misha Mansoor and Tosin Abasi - Optimist

Misha Mansoor and Tosin Abasi: two great tastes that taste great together.

Song of the Day: Coheed and Cambria - Number City

The Volto song "Tocino" from a couple of days ago has a video that's a bit... strange, I think does it. Today's song also has an interesting video, although it's a different kind of strange.

Sunday 18 August 2013

Song of the Day: Sylosis - Oath of Silence

It's been a while since I've advocated this particular engine of thrashy destruction, so it's about time your Song of the Day came once again from the Brits in Sylosis.

Saturday 17 August 2013

Song of the Day: Volto! - Tocino

What would you get if you took Tool's master skinsman Danny Carey and transplanted him into an instrumental jazz band? Volto! that's what.

Friday 16 August 2013

Song of the Day: Nine Inch Nails - Copy of A

Perhaps I've mentioned it before, but I'm going to see Nine Inch Nails in concert in October. I have to keep reminding myself from time to time, both because I keep forgetting and because it's an awesome turn of events.

Song of the Day: Aeolist - I

Yesterday I promised we'd be back to some new shit today, and I would hate to disappoint you.

Wednesday 14 August 2013

Song of the Day: Darkest Hour - The Sadist Nation

OK, seriously, just one more example of my theory about first songs on albums and then we'll get back to new shit. I promise.

Tuesday 13 August 2013

Monday 12 August 2013

Song of the Day: Finch - Insomniac Meat

I'm a firm believer in album openers. It's important to get your record started off on the right foot. Do, and you can establish momentum that carries listeners through the rest of the audio experience. Don't, and you risk losing listeners early.

Sunday 11 August 2013

Song of the Day: Black Crown Initiate - Stench of the Iron Age

Quickie song for you this evening, or at least quickie post, because you're going to need a few minutes for today's song. Around seven, to be precise...

Saturday 10 August 2013

Song of the Day: Mandroid Echostar - To The Wolves

This one's another one I've been waiting to be able to post for a long time. I was among those who supported Mandroid Echostar's indiegogo campaign, and I'm finally getting to hear the fruits of theit labour.

Friday's Song of the Day: Half Moon Run - Full Circle

Wow, it's like I should just start doing Songs every other day, right?

Thursday 8 August 2013

Song of the Day: Touche Amore - Just Exist

Touche Amore is one of those bands I'd see mentioned online without bothering to look into them. I never made the leap because I thought I had no reason too, thus never finding out if they're any good, never getting that reason to check them out, and perpetuating the cycle. Until today.

Song of the Humpday: Russian Circles - Deficit

Yeah, I know, I've been behind the eight ball a lot lately. It's been a busy week, but that's no excuse. Onward and upward!

Tuesday 6 August 2013

Song of the Day: Pearl Jam - Mind Your Manners

Sure, they're not metal, and they're not even my favourite of the "grunge era" bands (that honour belongs to Soundgarden) but there's still no denying that the new Pearl Jam song is pretty decent.

Monday 5 August 2013

Song of the Day (Monday): Glassjaw - Mu Empire

I know I've done it a time or two here in the Song of the Day section of Loud Noises, but I'm going to do it again today, because every once in a while I feel the urge to revisit the awesomeness of Glassjaw and lament the lack of a new record from them still.

Song of the Day (Sunday): Last Chance to Reason - Rebirth

I'm going claim that last night's lack of post was due to some sort of server problems. Yeah, let's go with that.

Saturday 3 August 2013

Today's Song of the Day: Collections - Plagiarist

I'm always excited when I discover a new band that tickles my fancy, but that goes double for those times when I discover that said new band is Canadian. It's not just Nickelback, Celine Dion, and Bryan Adams up here everybody!

Yesterday's Song of the Day: Aenimus - Heavy Lies the Crown

Circumstances somewhat beyond my control (read: drinking and Super Nintendo) precluded my posting a song last night. But you all know the drill in these situations by now, so let's just move forward, shall we?
