Song of the Day: Coheed and Cambria - The Velourium Camper II: Backend of Forever

I've no doubt that pop proggers Coheed and Cambria earned themselves a bunch of new fans with last fall's The Afterman: Ascension and this spring's The Afterman: Descension. Maybe you're among them.

But Co & Ca have been doing their thing for a while now, and I've been tuned into that thing for almost as long. Back when Coheed might well have been lumped in with the whole emo movement the first Coheed song I heard, which instantly got me hooked on them, was the second movement of the "Velourium Camper" suite from 2003's In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, "Backend of Forever".

Like all of Coheed's work, "Backend of Forever" works both on the level of the band's overarching narrative as well as the level of simple pop/rock song. Have a listen to this deep cut from the Coheed catalogue and see if you dig it on either level.
