Song of the Day: Stone Temple Pilots - Vasoline

If you've been following music news at all in the last week or two, you've now doubt seen that the on-again-off-again relationship between Scott Weiland and the rest of Stone Temple Pilots is once again off, quite possibly for good this time. You've also no doubt seen that, for now at least, Linkin Park's Chester Bennington is STP's new singer.

Song of the Day: Skyharbor - Trayus

A couple of my favourite bands have some new material for me to digest either already out imminently due (Tesseract's Altered State and The Black Dahlia Murder's Everblack, to name two) but there's a few others with albums under construction that I'm still waiting on.

Song of the Day: The Dillinger Escape Plan - One of Us is the Killer

I've been rocking the new Dillinger Escape Plan record all day, and I'm sure I'm not the only person who's taken a shine to One of Us is the Killer since its release a couple weeks ago. How about you?

Tuesday 28 May 2013

Song of the Day: Tesseract - Singularity

It's been a long wait for us Tesseract fans, but today's the day. The new record Altered State is finally out, and the fact that my pre-order has yet to arrive isn't going to stop me from calling your attention to the first song off the album to have a video. Single = "Singularity". Coincidence?

Monday 27 May 2013

Song of the Day: Buckethead - Botnus

I've discussed a lot of different stuff over the last year and a bit, so it kinda surprises me that I haven't touched upon Buckethead before now. But it's time to change that.

Sunday 26 May 2013

Song of the Day: Nine Inch Nails - Head Like a Hole

I was doin' some driving today, and as I'm sure we can all agree, being on the road requires the right music. If you're anything like me, you can't really spend a few hours in the car with anything too mellow or sedate. That shit can be dangerous.

Saturday 25 May 2013

Song of the Day: The Les Claypool Frog Brigade - Whamola

Not surprisingly, time continues to move forward in a linear fashion, and we have once again arrived at a weekend. As a result, today I've got a raucous weekend song for you. But I warn you, it's a little weird.

Friday 24 May 2013

Song of the Day: Periphery - All New Materials

It's been a while since I've done a Periphery song, and since my mp3 player's shuffle has thrown me the same one lately, I might as well exorcise that demon and get a Song of the Day out of it. Two pigs with one bird, right?

Thursday 23 May 2013

Song of the Day: These Precious Days - Drop the Rosary

Two things the regular reader will have learned about me by now if they've been paying attention: I likes me some Tesseract, and I likes me some Skyharbor. As such, the twin prospect of new Skyharbor material being under construction and a new Tesseract album dropping in mere days has me pleased as punch. And now I've got the perfect crossing of the streams song to hold me over.

Wednesday 22 May 2013

Song of the Day: 36 Crazyfists - Elysium

Last week when I featured Sleepers Awake, I couldn't remember the band that Sleepers made me think of. Today I have remembered, but your guess is as good as mine when it comes to exactly why my brain made the connection between these two bands.

Tuesday 21 May 2013

Song of the Day: Plini - Moonflower

Short and sweet defines today's Song of the Day post: short little post for a (relatively) short little song.

Monday 20 May 2013

Song of the Day: Queens of the Stone Age - A Song for the Deaf

I've been going on about it all weekend, so by this point the observant reader should have picked up on the fact that it's a long weekend here in Canada, which makes today the holiday Monday. Today is the actual day off (for those of use who get the day off) and as such I thought I should perhaps feature something appropriate this evening.

Sunday 19 May 2013

Song of the Day: Rush - The Spirit of Radio

Both because Mike from Mandroid mentioned them in his responses to my Twenty Questions (which you should of course check out if you haven't done so already) and because it's a Canadian long weekend, I'm going full Canuck tonight and featuring by everybody's favourite princes of prog.

Saturday 18 May 2013

Twenty Questions - Michael Ciccia from Mandroid Echostar

As you may have seen me mention in a recent post, Loud Noises turned a year old about two weeks ago now. If you've followed the blog for any length of time, you may also have seen me mention that I've got some things in the works, simmering away in the background, that I couldn't yet unveil to the world. But none of those things has ever really amount to much more than continued simmerings. Until now.

Song of the Day: Cake - Long Line of Cars

I know, I know, I said I had something planned for yesterday afternoon or evening, and I did. But I got sidetracked. By sleeping. But I'm back at it today, and you will indeed get my little treat this afternoon... right after we deal with our usual business.

Friday 17 May 2013

Song of the Day: Sleepers Awake - The Fulcrum

I've got a couple of posts planned for today, the first of which is of course your Song of the Day. Today, I've got a song from a band that's pleasantly heavy while still being something that your non-metalhead friend might get into. A little bit post-rock, a little bit post-metal, a dash of prog thrown in, with a smattering of elements of modern death/deathcore (I'm looking at you, brief blast beats) the Colombians (Ohio, that is) in Sleepers Awake have a lot going for them.

Thursday 16 May 2013

Song of the Day: The Black Dahlia Murder - Raped in Hatred by Vines of Thorn

It's like summer blockbuster season for metal fans right now. May and June have a pretty impressive slate of stuff coming out, at least as far as I'm concerned, including the latest album by today's band.

Wednesday 15 May 2013

Song of the Day: Darkest Hour - Veritas, Aequitas

I'm tired, so I'm going to bed. But you should click on the jump.

Take thirteen (yes, thirteen) minutes out of your otherwise shitty evening and listen to the epic Darkest Hour slow-burner "Veritas, Aequitas" from their 2003 classic Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation. It's all the proof you need that Darkest Hour aren't all Swedish melodeathcore. They've got an instrumetal side too.

Tuesday 14 May 2013

Song of the Day: Set and Setting - Spiraling Uncertainties

Cool instrumental stuff seems, thankfully, to be in ready supply these days. Among the instrumental stuff I'm digging durrently: Scale the Summit, Pomegranate Tiger, Russian Circles, Blotted Science, Animals as Leaders, Mestis, Trioscapes, Zaius, Intervals...

Monday 13 May 2013

Song of the Day: The Ocean - Mesopelagic: Into the Uncanny

When I was picking up my copy of the new Arsis album Unwelcome a week or two ago, I also happened to grab a copy of the newest album from German band The Ocean, and boy am I glad I did.

Sunday 12 May 2013

Song of the Day: Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession

It seems I've been so busy lately finishing my thesis that I've missed a rather important little milestone. You see, it was stuck in the back of my head that I started making these here Loud Noises last May, and I had thought that it was later in the month, but it only occurred to me to actually check today.

Song of the Day: As I Lay Dying - The Darkest Nights

I'm pretty sure I've made this clear before, but just in case some of you haven't pick up on it, I'mma spell it out for you: this is NOT a music/metal news blog.

Friday 10 May 2013

Song of the Day: Opeth - Porcelain Heart

All too soon, it's happening again: my girlfriend is making another trek to Ikea to get more furnishings for her new apartment. But take heart, my fellow males: it looks like I don't have to go.

Thursday 9 May 2013

Song of the Day: Shokran - Dark Desert

I think I've mentioned before that Google gives me access to a few stats here in the back-end of Blogger. I can see which posts are getting pageviews, and from where in the world those views are coming, and one thing I'm noticing is that apparently Loud Noises is big in Russia.

Wednesday 8 May 2013

Song of the Day: Zaius - Exordium

This evening I've got some tasty, tasty instrumetal from a band that makes me want to do another instrumental theme week right this minute. But since Canadiana Week is still visible in our rear view mirror, I'm not going to bother sitting on this one. Besides, these guys are too cool to try and keep under my hat.

Tuesday 7 May 2013

Song of the Day: Mean's End - Candle in the Dark

I've got some new stuff for you tonight, all the way from Sweden. Those Swedes must do nothing but sit in their Ikea rooms and think about metal. It's a nice gig if you can get it.

Monday 6 May 2013

Song of the Day, Part 2: Revenge of the Sixth

Now do you see why I had to fudge the Star Wars theme a little for the first part of today's double header? The second part is a story that simply demands to be told. Eat your heart out, Lucas.

Song of the Day, Part 1: May the Fifth Be With You

Yeah, I know Star Wars Day is actually May the Fourth. I get how the pun works. But I missed yesterday (my girlfriend's new apartment is still internetless at the moment) and the theme I'm going with for today's two-parter (or the titles anyways) is Star Wars. So use the Fifth, young padawan, and crank up something of the new and hotly anticipated Arsis album, Unwelcome.

Saturday 4 May 2013

Song of the Day: Mandroid Echostar - Hexaton

It's been a long Saturday, so I've just got a quick finale to Canadiana Week today. I've written about today's band before, so much so in fact that I'm almost out of songs to feature...for now... What do I mean?

Friday 3 May 2013

Song of the Day: Mother Mother - O My Heart

Sure, it's not metal (are you getting tired of hearing me say that yet?) but I came up with something to feature that's cool, fairly unknown, and NOT from Ontario. I've written about them before, but that was for one of their newer songs, whereas today (yes, it's daylight as I'm typing this) we're going with something off the album that got me into this band in the first place.

Thursday 2 May 2013

Song of the Day: Alexisonfire - .44 Caliber Love Letter

They might not be a band anymore, but they're still Canadian. Because neither of us has come up with anything from either coast yet, Canadiana Week continues tonight with Alexisonfire.

Wednesday 1 May 2013

Song of the Day: Finger Eleven - Complicated Questions

We're going to shift gears a bit tonight as we hit the mid point of Canadiana Week. I've been trying to keep it pretty heavy and metal so far, because hey, this is Loud Noises after all, but tonight I'm going with a song from Burlington rockers Finger Eleven. Capiche?
