Song of the Day: The Dear Hunter - In Cauda Venenum

Ever heard of The Dear Hunter? No? I'll forgive you, since I don't think I've written about them yet. But after today you've got no excuse, OK?

Maybe you have heard of The Receiving End of Sirens, Casey Crescenzo's earlier band? Either way, all you need to know is that there's this guy, Casey, who was in this band, Sirens, and he had this material that wasn't really Sirens material, so he started a little side band called The Dear Hunter as somewhere to put all this cool material. Fast forward a bit, The Receiving End of Sirens ended, and The Dear Hunter became Casey's main project. It's not exactly metal, but it's so much more than indie rock or pop or whatever other label you might try to use to encapsulate it, and that makes it interesting to me. Let's see what you think.

Your song today is "In Cauda Venenum", from The Dear Hunter's aptly titled 2009 third full-length Act III: Life and Death. It's not brand new Dear Hunter, but it's not super-old Dear Hunter either, so it let it be an approximation of Casey's work's sound for you. Open your mind and have at it.
