Song of the Day: Evita - Thrown to the Wolves

I've got some new stuff for you today, or at least some stuff that's probably new to you. As I was saying yesterday, fans of heavy music are by now familiar with terms like metalcore, if not annoyed by them. We're almost to the point where bands labeled metalcore are derided out of hand by deathgrind elitists simply because they can conceivably be considered to fall under the massive metalcore umbrella. But we shouldn't forget that metalcore has produced some stellar bands, and continues to produce some stuff that's worth listening to. Exhibit A is today's song.

That song is "Thrown to the Wolves" by (unfortunately seemingly now defunct) British band Evita, from their 2009 LP Minutes and Miles. You might think it's just straight-forward metalcore at first, but Evita have (or had) a knack for cool riffs and interesting melodies. I picked up a copy sound unheard from the Basick Records webstore's Boxing Day sale this past Christmas and then kind of forgot about it. Having had some Evita come up lately on the ol' shuffle, I can say that this purchase was not money wasted. Check out "Thrown to the Wolves" for yourself and tell me what you think.
